2025 Expedition

Arctic SHERP

 

The first overland expedition traveling from the southern Canadian border to the North Pole. The southern portion to Churchill provides the final equipment test, with Nunavut and the Inuit communities being the focus on the toughest section of the route on the way to the North Pole.

The team and vehicles will overland from Gillam, Manitoba to Moose Factory, Ontario along the shore of Hudson Bay to test a polar bear facial recognition software we are developing. We are communicating with provincial, federal, and indigenous organizations that manage polar bear populations.

A core team is developing and leading the expedition. In Nunavut, Inuit communities will participate in the expedition. Inuit guides will be added between communities to provide expertise on the land, animals, and other risks on the route. Communities will be engaged to showcase local culture, IQ (Inuit Quajimajatuqangit), and the local geography and animals.
